Even better than the photos. We woke up to mist on the lake every morning and took the canoe out before coffee. The stove made chilly evenings so cosy. Marisol's welcome note and the maple syrup were lovely touches.

About this place
Fernhollow started life in 1974 as a hand-built A-frame and spent forty years as a family summer place before we restored it, board by board, in 2019. It sits on two wooded acres that slope gently down to Emerald Lake, with nothing but birdsong and the occasional loon between you and the far shore.
Inside, the double-height living room is all warm cedar and glass — a wood-burning stove keeps it cosy in shoulder season, and the west-facing wall of windows turns gold every evening. The kitchen is fully stocked for real cooking: gas range, cast-iron pans, a French press and a starter pantry of oil, salt and local maple syrup. Downstairs there are two bedrooms with proper queen beds; up the ladder-stair, a lofted third room holds two twins and the best reading light in the house.
The space. 1,450 sq ft over two levels · wood-burning stove · outdoor cedar hot tub · covered porch with a hammock · gas grill · fire pit down by the dock · heated bathroom floors for cold mornings.
Getting around. A car is the easy way here — the driveway fits two, and there's a Level 2 EV charger. The village store and café are a six-minute drive; the nearest ski hill and a cluster of hiking trailheads are within twenty minutes.
Good to know. The loft is reached by a steep ladder-stair, so it suits older kids and adults best. We're a pet-free, smoke-free home. Quiet hours are 10pm–8am out of respect for our lakeside neighbours.

Worked remotely from the cabin for a week. The Wi-Fi genuinely held up on video calls and the desk nook is a real workspace, not a token one. Closed the laptop at five and was on the dock two minutes later.
The hot tub under the stars was the highlight of our anniversary trip. Kitchen is properly equipped — we cooked every night. Directions were crystal clear and check-in couldn't have been simpler.
Paddleboards were a huge hit with the kids and the fire pit made for perfect s'mores nights. The loft ladder is steep, so our youngest slept downstairs — worth knowing in advance. We're already planning next summer.
A proper digital detox. We came for the quiet and got it — no traffic, no neighbours, just loons on the water. Cabin is spotless and stocked with thoughtful little extras. Marisol replied within minutes whenever we messaged.
Shoulder-season gem. Frost on the deck in the morning, hot tub in the evening, and that wall of windows glowing at sunset. The village café down the road does an excellent flat white. Ten out of ten.
Local to Vermont and still blown away. This is how a lake cabin should feel — unfussy, warm and genuinely well kept. The heated bathroom floor in March is no small thing.
Flew up from Texas for a snowy long weekend and it was magic. The A-frame is even prettier in person. Loved falling asleep to total silence. Only wish we'd booked more nights.

A caretaker, not a call-centre
I grew up two coves over and have looked after Fernhollow since my grandparents' day. I live fifteen minutes away, so I'm around if you need a trail recommendation, a spare paddle or a hand lighting the stove — but I'll otherwise leave you to the quiet, which is really why people come.
