These were the family bedrooms before the house became a hotel, which is why they are the largest doubles and why the ceilings are the original chestnut.

The bed faces the window rather than the door — a decision we have been talked out of twice and reversed both times. The stair is steep, so this room suits older kids and adults.

The twins are real beds, not cots, and the reading light is as good as advertised. The ladder is steep, which they told us up front.
